In the opinion of a well-known and influential Saudi journalist, the Arab world should establish its own version of NATO to counter the rise of Iran in the Middle East. While this can easily be dismissed as just one person’s view of things, the formation of a joint Arab military force would be consistent with Bible prophecy.
A short while back, this blog looked at the so-called ‘Daniel 11:22 War’. The passage in question states “A flood of armies shall be swept away before him and be broken, and the prince of the covenant as well.” What does this mean exactly? For starters, let’s back up. In a previous blog, it was noted that “the Antichrist is going to be the Slavic ruler of Russia at the time of the end. What’s more, he is going to rise to power in Syria. In Daniel 11:21 we learn that the Antichrist must “come in peaceably and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.” Put differently, the Antichrist will be a foreign leader. Already in Syria, Russia calls the shots and Bashar Al-Assad is nothing more than a puppet. Let’s not forget, Syria invited Russia to come in and help them. Russia came in peaceably, but they aren’t going to just leave once they’ve cleaned up the mess.”
With that in mind, the meaning of Daniel 11:22 comes into focus. Saudi Arabia and Israel strongly oppose any growth of Iranian influence in the Middle East. It’s no secret that Saudi Arabia and Israel don’t exactly get along. Yet, for the moment, it appears that they’re united on Iran. It’s the whole ‘enemy of my enemy is my friend’ attitude. The Business Insider wrote a couple of weeks ago that “There’s an alliance growing between Saudi Arabia and Israel — and Iran should be worried.” Iran itself is aware of this. It has even recently accused the countries of working together to destroy its interests. Since Russia and Iran are working together in Syria, the Saudis and Israelis are worried about the Russians succeeding because it would give Iran more influence. For Israel, this is especially significant because Syria is on their border.
This likely explains why a massive military force from many nations will come against the Antichrist in Syria. The military force will include Israel, because a “prince of the covenant” is going to be swept away (Daniel 11:22). That’s probably a reference to an Israeli ruler or general. Incidentally, an alliance will be made with the Antichrist after this conflict (Daniel 11:23). This will be the seven-year covenant Israel and many other nations make with the Antichrist that begins the countdown to the Day of the Lord (Daniel 9:27).
In addition to Israel, the remaining countries that attack the Antichrist will come from the Middle East and North Africa, and probably be aligned with Saudi Arabia. This is because the international recognition of Israel as a state is a key part of the Antichrist’s seven-year deal (Daniel 9:27; 11:28, 30). Most nations in the world today that haven’t recognized Israel are in the Middle East and North Africa. In other words, it’s quite possible that Saudi Arabia puts together an Arab NATO that joins Israel in invading Syria sometime in the near future.
