According to reports, Hillary Clinton is considering becoming a Methodist preacher. No, you can’t make this stuff up. After all, this is Hillary Clinton we’re talking about. Affectionately known as ‘crooked Hillary’ for her criminal tendencies, in a post-election roundup this blog noted “Certainly “God will judge the secrets of men through Jesus Christ” (Romans 2:16). Yet, sometimes, sins that are swept under the rug are brought to light in this life. WikiLeaks released emails from the Democratic National Committee, Hillary Clinton’s illegal private server and her campaign advisor John Podesta, thoroughly exposing Clinton’s staggering corruption. James O’Keefe, Breitbart, the National Enquirer and others chipped in for good measure, revealing just how perverse and crooked Mrs. Clinton truly is.”
That’s no exaggeration. Unsurprisingly, Hillary Clinton received millions of dollars in funding from countries that imprison and kill gays and she had more corporate sponsors than a NASCAR driver. If personal history is any guide, Clinton’s main focus in life is making money and getting power, so it is surprising that she isn’t going the megachurch, prosperity gospel route. Regardless, don’t we already have enough con artists as pastors?
Of course, such pastoral ambitions aren’t all that surprising. Back in 2014, Hillary Clinton was readying herself for her failed presidential run in 2016. While promoting a new book to pander to the electorate, she mentioned that “the Bible was and remains the biggest influence on my thinking.” Needless to say, eyebrows were raised. On abortion, gay marriage and welfare, Mrs. Clinton holds beliefs that are completely anti-biblical. Since she has no respect for what the Bible actually says, what exactly is she planning to preach about? Perhaps she’ll justify political corruption and call it the Gospel according to Hillary. Her pastor would certainly be supportive.
Indeed, speaking of anti-biblical, Hillary Clinton’s pastor Bill Shillady compared Clinton’s election defeat to Good Friday. He explained “My sister Hillary. You, our nation, our world is experiencing a black Friday. Our hope is that Sunday is coming. But it might well be hell for a while.” His blasphemous rambling didn’t stop there. Shillady added “I woke up that morning (on November 9) and it felt like maybe what the Apostles experienced on Good Friday…Their leader, master, and savior was dead and gone and they didn’t know what to do.” In other words, Shillady is saying Hillary Clinton’s defeat is on the level of the death of Jesus. That’s textbook blasphemy and complete nonsense. What makes it worse is that Shillady wrote a book of Clinton devotionals and plagiarized another minister in the process. How fitting for Hillary Clinton’s pastor. Maybe he’ll go by ‘shady Shillady’ from now on?
The truth is that lots of people try to co-opt Jesus and use Him to advance whatever sinful lifestyle or crooked agenda they like. Clinton and Shillady aren’t special in this regard. Instead of letting it go, however, it’s time to confront this practice of hijacking Jesus by pointing out what He actually said. No doubt, the world will always try to lecture Christians about what we should support and how we should behave. Who cares what they think? What the Bible says is all that matters. In response to the issues of the day, Jesus always rhetorically asked the following: have you not read? If it worked for Him, it’s good enough for us.
