Note: this topic is addressed in the following videos –> Where does the Antichrist come from?, Why Gog is the Antichrist and The Antichrist’s Ethnicity
Jesus had lots of connections with different places. Micah prophesied that He would be born in Bethlehem, Hosea prophesied He would be called out of Egypt and yet according to Isaiah He would minister in Capernaum, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali. This had to be confusing for all of the Jewish scholars, but when Jesus came onto the scene, He fulfilled all of these requirements. He was born in Bethlehem but moved to Egypt as a young boy to avoid being killed by Herod. His family came out of Egypt and settled in Nazareth. From Nazareth, He began His ministry, in the specific region of Zebulun and Naphtali.
Well, like the true Christ, the Antichrist will have plenty of associations with different places. For example, Ezekiel 38:2 depicts the Antichrist as the Slavic ruler of Russia at the time of the end. Another place the Antichrist will have a strong connection to is Syria.
Daniel 11:21-45 calls the Antichrist the King of the North. This title described the leaders of the Seleucid Empire, which was based in Syria and Iraq. Daniel 8:9 says the Antichrist will rise out of the western part of the Seleucid Empire, Syria. In Daniel 11:21, we learn that the Antichrist is going to rise to power in Syria. It says, “a despicable person will arise, on whom the honor of kingship has not been conferred.” This is a stuffy way of saying the Antichrist is going to be a dishonorable man who seizes power in Syria, despite not having any legal right to rule there.
In fact, “he will come in a time of tranquility and seize the kingdom by intrigue.” Maneuvering behind the scenes, the Antichrist will either become the new ruler in Syria or at the very least the power behind the throne. This coup d’état won’t win him any friends in the Middle East and it will lead to the Daniel 11:22 War.
Summary
All told, the Antichrist will be the ruler of Russia at the time of the end who comes to power in Syria.
