The First Coming of Jesus
Despite being written hundreds of years before He was born, the Old Testament contains numerous fulfilled predictions about the first coming of Jesus. Like Jesus said “Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms” (Luke 24:44).
He would be born in Bethlehem
Predicted – Micah 5:2. Fulfilled – Matthew 2:1; Luke 2:1-7.
He would be born of a virgin
Predicted – Genesis 3:15; Isaiah 7:14. Fulfilled – Matthew 1:18-24; Luke 1:34-35.
He would be presented with gifts at birth
Predicted – Psalm 72:10. Fulfilled – Matthew 2:11.
He would be a descendant of Judah
Predicted – Genesis 49:10. Fulfilled – Luke 3:23-38; Matthew 1:1-17.
He would be a descendant of David
Predicted – Psalm 132:11; Jeremiah 23:5-6; Jeremiah 33:15. Fulfilled – Luke 1:32-33.
Children would be killed in an effort to kill Him
Predicted – Jeremiah 31:15. Fulfilled – Matthew 2:16-17.
He would be taken to Egypt
Predicted – Hosea 11:1. Fulfilled – Matthew 2:14-15.
He would be preceded by a prophet who would prepare His way
Predicted – Isaiah 40:3; Malachi 3:1. Fulfilled – Matthew 3:1-3; Matthew 11:7-14.
He would teach in parables
Predicted – Psalm 78:2; Isaiah 6:9. Fulfilled – Matthew 13:10-16; Matthew 13:34-35.
He would be hated without a cause
Predicted – Psalm 69:4. Fulfilled – John 15:24-25.
He would heal the sick
Predicted – Isaiah 53:4-5. Fulfilled – Matthew 8:16-17; Matthew 12:15-21.
He would be praised by children
Predicted – Psalm 8:2. Fulfilled – Matthew 21:16.
He would enter Jerusalem on a donkey
Predicted – Zechariah 9:9. Fulfilled – John 12:12-15.
He would be betrayed by a close friend who would eat with Him
Predicted – Psalm 41:9. Fulfilled – John 13:18-27.
He would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver
Predicted – Zechariah 11:12. Fulfilled – Matthew 26:14-15.
The pieces of silver would be cast into God’s house and used to buy a potter’s field
Predicted – Zechariah 11:13. Fulfilled – Matthew 27:5-8.
He would be beaten
Predicted – Isaiah 50:6. Fulfilled – Matthew 27:30.
He would be accused by false witnesses
Predicted – Psalm 35:11. Fulfilled – Mark 14:56.
He would remain silent before His accusers
Predicted – Isaiah 53:7. Fulfilled – Matthew 27:12; Mark 14:61; Luke 23:9; John 19:9.
He would be spat upon
Predicted – Isaiah 50:6. Fulfilled – Matthew 26:67.
He would be humiliated

His clothing would be divided among His persecutors

His hands and His feet would be pierced

He would be given vinegar to drink
Predicted – Psalm 69:21. Fulfilled – Luke 23:36; John 19:29.
His side would be pierced

He would have no broken bones

After His death, His disciples would desert Him

He would be buried in a rich man’s tomb
Predicted – Isaiah 53:9. Fulfilled – Matthew 27:57-60; Luke 23:50-53; John 19:38-41.
He would be resurrected from the grave
Predicted – Psalm 16:10; Psalm 49:15; Isaiah 53:10-11. Fulfilled – Mark 16:6; Matthew 28:5-7.
He would ascend into heaven
Predicted – Psalm 68:18. Fulfilled – Luke 24:51; Acts 1:6-11.
He would sit at the right hand of God the Father
Predicted – Psalm 110:1. Fulfilled – Acts 2:32-36; Hebrews 10:12-13.
