There is power in the blood of Jesus. We have redemption through the blood, we’re sanctified by the blood, our consciences have been cleansed by the blood and His blood cleanses us of all sin. By the blood of Jesus, we overcome the enemy, revoking and removing Satan’s legal accusations against us in the courts of heaven. The blood is a big deal. Indeed, “we have confidence to enter the holy place by the blood of Jesus.” In other words, we can boldly approach the Father to receive grace and mercy when we need it.
1 Peter 2:5 notes that we’re priests who offer spiritual sacrifices which the Father accepts through Jesus, our High Priest. As priests according to the New Covenant, initiated by the shed blood of Jesus, we offer His blood. Under the Old Covenant, Moses sprinkled the tabernacle, which housed God’s presence, with the blood of calves and goats; by pleading the blood of Jesus we sprinkle His blood over us, because we’re the temple of the Holy Spirit. The Lord honored the blood sprinkled over doorways in faith, the Passover, and He certainly honors the blood of Christ, our Passover Lamb, sprinkled over us. We have access to God’s power and a legal right to His promises by the blood. Declare it.
Pleading the blood in accordance with the promises of God
There are several situations in which pleading the blood makes sense, such as protection, seeking forgiveness in the courts of heaven and healing. Saying “I plead the blood of Jesus” or even repeating the word “blood” in faith is all that’s necessary. It’s not some superstitious formula. Declaring the spiritual reality of the power of the blood of Jesus in faith is what matters. Plead the blood over your life and over your loved ones in accordance with the promises of God. For example, “I have the mind of Christ according to 1 Corinthians 2:16, so I plead the blood against forgetfulness.” Or, “Isaiah 53 says that I’m healed by the wounds of Christ, so I plead the blood against sickness.”
Protection
For protection over yourself and loved ones, declare the following before starting your day: “Father, in the name of Jesus, thank you. Thank you for Your Son Jesus, the Lamb of God who shed His perfect, precious blood for our sins. I cover myself and ____ with the blood of Jesus. I sprinkle it freely upon us, because it was freely shed. We are protected by the blood. We honor the blood of Jesus, which has saved us, healed us and delivered us.”
You could also incorporate Psalm 91: “The Lord rescues us from every trap and delivers us from the evil one. He protects us from deadly disease. Jesus took our sicknesses and pains; by His wounds, we are healed. The Lord’s faithfulness is our shield; He strengthens us and guards us from the evil one. I cover our bodies and minds with the blood of Jesus. I sprinkle the blood of Jesus on us.”
Confession
If you sin, confess it, plead the blood of Jesus and don’t dwell on it. Jesus is our Advocate. The blood of Jesus speaks about our salvation, healing and deliverance in heaven. Confess any sin, being as specific as possible, and plead the blood of Jesus.
“Father, You are my Judge. I enter Your courts with praise. I give thanks to You and I praise You. Lord, if I confess my sin, You are faithful and just to forgive me and to cleanse me of all unrighteousness. I ask forgiveness for any and all sin in my life. Jesus is my Advocate! I plead the blood. Thank you, Lord, for remembering me by the blood of Jesus. Thank you that the blood removes any accusation against me. I want to be delivered of any and all demonic affliction and I present myself as a living sacrifice to you.”
Healing
To deal with a pain or sickness that’s not chronic, like a headache, a cold, the flu, a stubbed toe or something like that, plead the blood!
Place your hands on yourself or on the person in pain and declare: “I plead the blood of Jesus. I sprinkle the blood of Jesus over this body. _[sickness/pain]_ leave this body right now in Jesus’ name. _[person’s name]_ is healed by the blood of Jesus.”
